The Veldismagn is an Icelandic magical stave used to grant the wearer protection, luck, health, and the safe return from travels. Also known as the “Stave for Returning,” the name Veldismagn means ‘to increase strength’ (‘veldi’: power; ‘magna’: to strengthen). It was drawn in blood on the chest so that “Nothing evil will harm you, and whole and healthy will you come back home, whether travelling by land or sea”. The original manuscript source of this design states:

“A power amplifier is to be inscribed on lignite and the grooves coloured with blood, and then placed between your breasts, and you will not suffer evil and will return home safe and sound, whether you travel by sea or land.”
