Paramaecium was a highly underrated doom/death band from the Australian scene. Where the band’s debut album Exhumed of the Earth featured a magnificently oppressive, gloomy and funereal sound, their second album Within the Ancient Forest incorporated more elements of gothic metal such as medieval aesthetics, clean singing, and an emphasis on melody. The album is based on a novel written by the singer which takes you through epic landscapes, enchanted lands, evil villains and a search for truth. With this in mind the music surrounds you with this feeling and mood throughout the entire album.
