“Helm of Awe” (Ægishjálmur) Norse Rune Magic Pendant
$37.65 – $57.92
The Helm of Awe (Ægishjálmur in Icelandic) is a name given to various occult symbols known as galdrastafir (“magic staves”). The name is a borrowing from Norse mythology, where the Helm of Awe is a magical object belonging to a treasure hoard. The most famous of these symbols stems from the grimoire Galdrakver (“Book of Magic”) from c. 1670, which states:
“To be inscribed on lead, and the lead image pressed into one’s forehead between the eyebrows saying ‘I bear the helm of terror between my brows!’ Anyone who bears this image against his enemies is guaranteed victory. The Helm of Terror is also trusty protection against the wrath of powerful men saying ‘I wash my enemies’ hatred off me, the pillage and wrath of wealth men.’ This stave is extremely effective.”
